The Path of the Gods: Key information

We know that you’ll have a few basic questions, so we’ve answered them here:

Where does it start and end?

The route starts in Bomerano, a small village in the hills of the Amalfi Coast. It’s a point-to-point route that ends in Nocelle, going slightly downhill all the way.

How long is it?

The total hike of the Path of the Gods is 7.8km long, or nearly 5 miles.

When’s the best time to hike the Path of the Gods?

Timing your visit right will be key to your enjoyment of this wonderful trail.

Peak season can be more expensive, with families flocking to the coastline during the school holidays. The perfect balance for hiking is late spring or early autumn, where you’ll enjoy lower prices and plenty of warm sunshine – without the intense, sweltering heat of summertime.

Just remember that in the height of summer, temperatures will soar in the middle of the day. For any adventures in the heat, it’s very important to learn how to stay hydrated while hiking. You’ll lose more water than you think!

Is this hike family-friendly?

Choosing your company is important. The trail is generally safe but is at risk of landslides in the middle of winter. Since it’s a gentle downhill route, it’s not too physically challenging – so can be suitable for families.

If your children are active, fit, and comfortable walking for at least two hours already, they shouldn’t find the Path of the Gods difficult. It’s a great choice for first-time hikers, but if you’re not feeling up for the whole route, you could just reach the halfway point and then return to Bomerano.

What do you need to take on the Path of the Gods?

As with any hike, going prepared is the best idea. Wear a comfortable pair of hiking boots or walking trainers and start with fewer layers than you expect to need – especially if you’re starting in the morning!

Carrying a first-aid kit is sensible in case you end up with any slips or falls. You should also bring plenty of water, preferably with at least one big bottle per person. Using a hydration backpack could make this easier and more enjoyable while you’re on the go.

Overview

If you’re ready for a change of scenery while you’re enjoying a break on the Amalfi Coast, this hike makes a brilliant choice for solo travellers, couples, and families alike. Just remember that if you’re heading to this historical trail in summer, you should avoid the heat of the day wherever possible.
